The hunt goes on, both for a job and for a new place to live. Sadly, there’s nothing to report on the job front for a third week in a row, but I’m going to keep plugging and hoping something comes through soon. Best of luck to all the new grads out there, by the way, both librarians and other professions/majors. I’ve also been searching for an apartment, which has been interesting. I had one good possibility, but the other person had to back out. No grudges, no hard feelings, stuff happens. I’ve been looking on CraigsList and Roommates.com for places to share, and there’s a lot of interesting stuff available.

In other news, I went to see the new Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe movie last night. Robin Hood was definitely a good one, and my friend and I both enjoyed it. Not to dump on Gladiator, but I liked Robin Hood better. Medieval warfare, drinking songs, Cate Blanchett in full armor rallying forest brats (they were either “feral orphans” or ”forest boys” according to the movie) to battle the French while Heather Alexander’s “March of Cambreadth” played in my head … Awesomeness. I also got one of my new favorite quotes from the movie: Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions.

Regrettable repeats

I realize this is getting a little boring, and I do apologize for that fact, but for yet another week there is nothing big to report. I sent out a couple more applications this past week and got a few more rejections. I was warned by at least two professional working librarians that it could take a year or two for me to find a job after graduation (they said it did for them). It’s been just over a year since I got my diploma, and they were right. I picked a bad time to graduate, but I guess I can take a bit of comfort (if you could call it that) in knowing that I’m not alone and that others have been in this situation before.

I’m going to keep plugging as always with the hope that something better will come up in the next week. For now, I’m signing off because I’m going to be spending a few days up by lovely Lake Ontario to see one of my best friends get married. Huzzah for pirate-themed weddings! Yarrrgh! :)

There’s nothing particularly new or special to report this week. I’m still searching for a job in a library and working retail in the meantime. I’m going to be standing up with one of my best friends when she gets married next weekend, and once I figure out my schedule when I get back, I believe I’ll be looking into volunteering again with my local public library, just to keep my hand in that world. I may also start taking more driving lessons, but it’ll depend on how I’m doing with other demands on my paycheck. That’s all for this week, and happy reading and job hunting to all.

The search continues as ever. I’ve been finding plenty of jobs listed, but as I’ve probably mentioned before, so many of them are above my level or require experience or knowledge that I don’t have at this time. It’s the old double-edged swort that I encountered when I got out of undergrad: I can’t get good work unless I have experience, and I can’t get experience until I manage to land a good job. I did have a conversation last week about an opening with a company that provides and helps organize electronic resources for libraries. Unfortunately, it would be a long (and too expensive at the moment) hike to get there and back for an interview, and even if they wound up loving me the pay they’re offering wouldn’t make it worth moving that far. Such is life. I’ll just have to continue searching and applying for anything and everything I can.

As the job hunt continues, so are my reading habits. After a (too long) break from reading Clive Cussler, I’ve started catching up with my backlog. I’m currently roughly two-thirds through Arctic Drift, which is part of the long-running Dirk Pitt series. The last Cussler book I read was The Chase, a year or two ago. I’ve got copies of Corsair, Medusa, The Wrecker and Silent Sea on my shelf waiting for me, as well as his children’s book The Aventures of the Vin Fizz. I’m debating whether to continue my search for a cheap used copy of Spartan Gold or just borrow a library copy, but given the current (massive) state of my To Be Read stack, that can wait.
